Having found success with the defenses of Hanover, our 'Kampfgruppe' heading west to help bolster defenses in Amsterdam. We took up positions along a critical supply road and dug in waiting for the arrival of the Soviet onslaught.
To the surprise of our recon elements, T-55s and T-72s bearing the symbols of the oppressed East German army appeared. Before the Luchs could pull back, they were smashed by heavy caliber AT rounds. No reconnaissance by the enemy? This must be a strong attack element, we knew that we had to hold - no matter the cost!
While the tanks were making a strong push towards our right flank, there were limited elements on the Volksarmie's left. To that end, we sent our plucky Scorpions and tough Marders forward to harass the enemy's infantry and AA elements. By the end of this day's battle, they had eliminated the enemy's Shilkas, BTR transports and were in a good position to keep the enemy's infantry in place.
On the right flank and in the center, our 5 Chieftain tanks fired like mad into the swarming enemy tanks. The superior training and skills of our brave tankers meant that fore each Chieftain destroyed, 3-4 enemy tanks went with it. However, despite the obvious mathematical favor to the British tankers, there were a few lucky hits from enemy missiles launched from the woods on the far side of the fields. Due to our limited number of tanks, we began pulling the Chieftains to safety as our Recon and Marders could not eliminate the Volksarmie infantry fast enough to threaten the enemy's Spandrel missiles. We needed Chieftains if we were going to continue to make a stand.
While the Chieftain tanks pulled back, the stalwart German infantry and Jaguar tank hunters held firm and would not give an inch of ground to the rash Volksarmie force. The Gepards and Fliegarfaut teams kept the Red Airforce from making much of an impact on the game as well.
At the end of the day, only a few operational Volksarmie tanks were still moving about among the many burning wrecks. Knowing the Red Tide could no longer push forward and having kept the vital supply road open for another day, the West German Panzergrenadiers pulled back to join the Chieftains at a better defensive position. Should the Reds continue to push their luck, we would be sure to watch their tide break upon our sure-footed defenses.
Neat looking terrain.
