The Americans are back on my table, with another 50 point game of M-1s against the T-64s. This time we had a Quick Mission bypass game with the Americans on the attack against the Soviets. Lessons learned from this are that at 50 points, we could only fit two platoons of two M-1s on the table along with a CO in an M-1, infantry, and ITOWs. If one M-1 is out, the other one takes a morale test and it’s 50-50 whether he stays. Super Quench, back from college on break and now officially an adult has lost his “kids are lucky” ability to make any die roll anytime, and thus he suffered greatly from this issue. Next game we’ll give him more tanks, but in the meantime the T-64/motor rifle combo continues its run of success. Here is the opening Soviet setup to cover the objectives.

The Americans get ready to roll.
The big M-1 tanks move up and shoot....
Good shooting, with a dead T-64 and a bailed out one (yellow chicken marker!)
Return volley bails both M-1's on the right.
Which caused the platoon to run away after failing morale, leaving the CO by himself.
The ITOWs get their first success of their career, burning another T-64.
It's time to move out. The best way to defend the objectives is to charge and engage the enemy as far away from the objectives as I can. We leave cover, line up five T-64s, and volley fire on the M-1 platoon. We burn one.
M-1s and T-64s are both tough. Return fire causes one T-64 to "chicken out."
But that tank remounts, and our return volley burns the second M-1 in the platoon.
Spandrels get the last M-1, and it's all over. The M-1s are tough tanks, but in two tank platoons if one is out the other is at risk.

Super Quench had a good plan, using terrain to screen the Spandrels out of the opening rounds of this fight. The M-1s put out a lot of fire, but the T-64 is just as hard as he is and once morale failed him I had more tubes putting out more fire and the countercharge got him. Good plan, but it didn't work this time.
