Overrunning British Lines in Niederbayern

Stavka had orderd an attack on Niederbayern sector for early morning, so our troops gathered in their assembly area. Satelite photos had shown strong british forces in this sector and our goal is to push them back.

Our brave forces have gathered with a spearheading force right up the enemy.

A scouting force of two brave Motor Rifle Companies led by their commander Major Helmchen probed the enemy defenses. A well fortified british Infantry Company was identified.

Major Helmchens scouting force take a Hotel near a british infantry company.

Even before our attack has begun the Brits pushed forward with a platoon of Chieftains in a suicidal manner. Our troops were surprised as they didn't expect this amount of courage from the British. They only know them hiding and digging deep foxholes. Luckily a flight of Frogfoot was in the area and responded quick to our call for ground support.

Sadly the Frogfoot had loaded a bad batch of missiles only hitting one of the enemy tanks.

The loss of one of their tanks let the Brits lose all of their courage and send them running back to their lines where they are protected by their infantry.

The surprise of attacking british forces didn't stick and our troops reacted with a massive counterattack to pressure the british Objective.

Brits under pressure. Feldwebel Hans Gretchen managed to knock out a Chieftain with a flankshot and send the last survivor back home to their queen.

With the Chieftains gone this flank seems to be the hole where we can push through and exploit our attack. So all forces were send in, even the Scouting Force from Major Helmchen.

All BMPs moving in, ripping appart british vehicles (Abbot Field Battery, Spartan Blowpipes, Forward Observer, Chieftains).

On the way to the weakend flank we suffer losses by cowardly Milans hiding in a building. But our brave Motor Rifles hold the lines against british Forces trying to reinforce their besieged objective.

Motor Rifles blocking the support route to the objective.

All of our reserves were mobilised to dislodge the defending british infantry. While british recon troops poor in as their reserve we manage to isolate the objective from any reinforcements.

Isolating the objective with all our available forces.

The british recon vehicles take their toll from the light armoured BMPs but our soldiers stand brave and fight down all sprouting resistance. The defending infantry is melting away, supported by Frogfoot. But a faulty batch of missiles (probably sabotaged by imperial agents) prohibits any losses of british lives.

Moments before the final charge.

British mortars try to conceal the british foxholes with smoke to stop our tanks from hitting them. But the tank commander Oberstlieutnant Krabowsky orderd a furious charge against the last surviving infantry to sweep them away.

After the successful assault our tanks claim the objective and prepare to exploit the gap in the british lines.

Our troops have crushed the british line with minimal own casualties. We will now exploit this gap and poor our troops farther into the heart of West Germany.

This game was part of a gaming day with Larks. The 3 games played this day were our first TY games we we are still learning to move the troops properly. We are FoW veterans so decided to have though but funny games. This was this kind of game we were looking for. It was extrem thrilling with lots of movement and the objective was taken in the last possible turn (we agreed to play a max of 8 turns). So it ended 5:2 for Warpac.

Although it was intense fighting Warpac only lost 2 Platoons (BMP-1). The Brits on the other hand lost nearly all of their army with only 1 Scorpian Platoon, 1 Infantry Platoon, Mortar Platoon and Milan Platoon surviving. My MVP were the BMPs backed up by the T-55. They are so fast and squishy and put out loads of damage to small and medium vehicles. The Frogfoot were underwhelming although the showd up 4 times in 8 rounds. With only the Chieftains as high value targets their use was very limited and as they failed to hit properly they only destroyed 1 Chieftain and 2 stand of infantry in the whole game.

The game was a ton of fun and initiated orders for more stuff (BRDM, Carnations etc.). I am looking forward to more games in the future.

oh, lol, nice win by the way, used your lists strengths well

  • Jagdpanzer says:

Yeah ive seen alot of this many small units, been played by WARSAW, and well it works, I think the small points value of the 3 tank units etc can be abused alot. But i guess you use what the list allows. Good to see though in your case mostly full str units. I think with the NATO points cost and morale rules really seems to get penalized at lower point battles. Not sure what the answer is, but it definitely helps BF sell more great figures.

    Nice report

Especially at low point levels the chances of the Horde is very high to just overwhelm NATO MBTs and Milans. During this battle I only used 10 T-55, the other two battles saw 30 T-55 and they worked really nice, even against Chieftains with stillbrew. At some point in the game they take flank shots and just die like a 0,25pts transport vehicle. In all 3 games I did this day the Chieftains didn’t matter at all. They got knocked out by aircraft and BMP, Spandrels or, like in the Leipzig game I am going to post later on, took out 2 T-55 and 5 BMP and then got flanked by 6 T-55 and exploded.

I have to admit that I am not sold on 30 T-55 as it is hard to squeeze them onto the table. Maybe I am going down to 20. But they are worth taking and in my opinion a really good counter to everything that is out there (Elite Nato MBT, Milans, BMP-Spam). But the future will show how the Meta of the game shifts.

Nice to see your Warsaw Pact army in action.
I’m still not sold on massed T55s though.
At low point levels the chances are slim to encounter modern NATO MBTs and massed ATGMs in larger numbers. But then T55s are often only targets…

  • Bosje says:

Looks like an interesting game, well played.

That video alone was worth the commendation!

(The rest is just as good anyway).
