Round one in our 75 TY tournament found my VA truppen facing off against John's WG Panzer Ko. John is new to TY but not to V4 FOW. We were given the Hamburg Senario which had him as the attacker. He started with a PG Zug, his M109s, two PAH, and his formation commander in his Leopard 2.
I started with both of my infantry units, the 2S1s, two units of Spandrels, and my SA-13s.
John started with his PAH, and M-109s behind the white apartment buildings at the center of his board edge. On his turn his PAHs, and the 1ICs tank eliminated a Spandrel platoon. On my turn the Leo2 went up in flames, and the Gophers wiped out the PAH. The infantry on the right began an attack on his objective near his artillery battery.
The next couple of turns saw skirmishing on the left, and the Motor-schutzen unit pushing towards the M-109s. The M-109s ranged in on them every turn, and the 2S1s never were able to range in the entire battle. On my turn three I was occupying the woods and building when the sun came up and....
Turn four saw the West Germans receive the Leo 2 zug and the Gepards. Over the next two turns they wiped out the BMPs, and assaulted the infantry out of the woods. The survivors rallied up in the apartment building, but just could not make a telling hit on any of the enemy units. On T5 a unit on Soviet T-64s arrived, but did so on the opposite end of the map from where they were needed. They moved toward the left objective along with their BMPs, and the infantry.
On Turn 6 the WGs started moving the Leopard Zug to the middle of the board. The T-64s were able to assaults the infantry defending the objective, were able to kill two teams, but failed a counterattack roll and broke off.
I received another platoon of reinforcements and brought in the lead company of the T-55 Battalion, and the battalion commander. The camouflaged T-55 took down a Leopard with a side shot. The infantry in the apartment bailed out an M-109, and killed another. The remaining vehicle fled.
On T7 John moved the surviving Leo2s in to cover on the far side of the overpass. Their fire, as well as fire from the Milan teams of the infantry destroyed the T-64s, The Marders also finished off the last of the BMP-1s. Finally the WG infantry took down several of the soviet infantry teams. Another company of T-55s arrived, but neither group was able to get in to range, and the game timed out for a frustrating 3-3 tie. Well done to John on his first TY battle.
Oooh, a close one! Those Leopard 2s can be pretty mean when used correctly. Good game, you two.
