This Time I went with:
HQ + 2xGPMG SF
2x small mech platoons with MILANS
In Support
4xScorpions
4xRapiers
4xHarriers
4xLynx
Victor had brought with him:
HQ T72
T72 company of 3
T72 company of 3
T55 company of 5
Medium BMP1 mech company (15 stands and 9 BMP1´s)
4xShilka
3xCarnations (Arty)
1xBMP1 Observer
2xBMP1 Recon
I deployed my two Mech platoons to cover the three objectives the best I could and held the 4 Harriers in ambush, hoping to use the cover of night to strike without being seen by the Shilkas. I placed 4xLynx, Rapiers and Scorpions in reserve.
Victor deployed all his forces on my left flank prepared for one big push.
With the Shilkas rolling 2 for view range the Harriers only take AA fire from 7 T72, but thats enough to take down 1 plane. Now the time has come to stop the attack, but failing to range in on my two first attempts means I hit on 6´s and I only destroys 2 T72 and a BMP1.
The East Germans then unloads the infantry and Assaults with 9 stands, in an attempt to push the 3 British infantry stands away that is contesting the objective. The E.German suffer huge losses in defensive fire.
In My movement face in relocate my 2nd mech platoon to help stop the oncoming tide of Red Armour and men.
Victor keeps pushing more and more troops towards the objective and the even though My men kills a couple here and a couple there it doesn't seems to be enough. The Harriers are no-show and no reserves arrive in my 3 turn.
Finally I get some reserves, but the 4 lynx fail their Blizts move and can't shoot, the Rapiers make a mad dash towards the unprotected objective, to draw away fire from the suffering mech platoons and the Scorpions road-dash to make cover for the moving infantry, that is trying to get closer to the objective that is under attack.
At 50 points, I claim it is impossible for NATO to win this missions, unless they go ALL infantry list. 3 objectives to defend and Dawn rules, makes it near impossible, if one dont know in advance that this is the mission that is going to be played. No wonder the How Corridor is in WARPAC hands. That said, Victor played the missions right. Chose one objective to attack and hit it with everything he had. We where both surprised have much of a beating the British infantry can take, with out being finished off. I held out til turn 5 which was a lot longer than expected. Next time we will play at a lager point level to avoid to much infantry on the board.
But as always a fun and challenging game.
Ooft, Harriers can run rampant at night against Shilkas, good idea there Major! Very well rounded report.
great report. And in larger battles my East Germans do cover the table
Awesome looking report! Glad to see you back into the fray Beaver.
HMS Belfast, lesson learn. Putting together more scorpions, strikers, blowpipes abbots and infantry as we speak. I read your latest report and saw how effective the recon can be.
Commended. But next time, take fewer divisional assets. You need boots on the ground to eradicate the Communist pest from Europe 😉 .
Thank you for a great battle again
Very nice report and interesting to read and relive the battle. The luck was shifting through out but mostly in my favor in this game.
At least the victory was outside of the British I Corps and II Corps AOR.
Very tough mission, hard fought.
Great AAR! Tough loss, but agreed it is VERY hard for NATO with so few points. We need our Reserves!
Oh and maybe the choice of music kept your guard down 😉
agree with your 50 pts; 64 is a minimum 😉
Great Report and very nice pictures
terrain and both players models Pervie Klassae
a pity you are not the Victor against Victor!
Welcome back to the fight Beaver. I see what you mean about the mission. Maybe play again, but swap attacker and defender roles?
Great AAR. Hope you at least had some fun. Looks like fun.
No chance given the terrain and force you faced! Only the four Milan could take out tanks! Every thing else had to fly in at night?
An amazing AAR! Well worth the read!
I double checked his list, just to be sure it was only 50 points… hahahahaha.
Thank you for the kind words Red Alert, but it is a lot easier to be the copycat (Me) than being the Pioneer (You). Looking forward for our next battle engagement, so I can deploy a layered defence.

Are you sure that is only 50 points of East Germans. In a larger battle he could cover the entire table!

The apprentice exceeds his master.
Nice AAR with a lot of neat touches!
I commend you for the effort and Victor for the win!
