We set points at 64. We wanted to try another of the quick missions and rolled up bypass. The dice further decreed the British would defend. As my opponent had said he wanted woods I expected a BMP swarm and was surprised to see 9 T64s supported by a single MRC, a spandrel and two recon elements.
The terrain precluded any real use of the recon. Dug in all 3 platoons, 2 deep in the woods and one in the open. The one in the open was supported by the Milan platoon and the Blowpipes. The mortars were further back and the Chieftain sqn the mobile reserve. Both Scimitars and Scorpions deployed forward hull down.

British Deploy

Turn 1 T64s advanced down the narrow road hoping to split my force and take an objective. After much shooting Pact killed one scimitar and bailed one blowpipe.
Scorpions blitzed to get on the flank of the T64s. Chieftain sqn moved to support center obj as that seemed to be the main effort. TA shooting was deadly – Blowpipes took out the Spandrel Platoon, Scimitars killed 3 and bailed one BMP2, the Scorpions killed 2 T64 and a BRDM. Lynx’s also accounted for one T64. Both the last BMP and last BRDM failed morale. The remaining scimitars executed a shoot and scoot with two getting clean away and one bogging.

Soviets advance thinking to roll over the TA

Turn 2 T64s turned to engage the Scorpions killing one and bailing one. The MRC first shot at and then assaulted the bogged scimitar to no effect.
Mortars ranged in and killed 2 RPGs and the Scimitar un-bogged and got away. Two mobile Scorpions attempted to disengage behind the woods.

Scorpions disengage sort of

Turn 3 T64s (5 of them) now shifted fully to the open corridor to the other objective leaving one of their number bogged. The MRC also pulled back. In some remarkable shooting the T64 killed one more scorpion and 3 of the 4 dug in gone to ground Milan teams. Both platoons failed morale.
Chieftains pulled out of the woods and headed to the T64 concentration. The blowpipes disengaged as their minimum range was about to be an issue.
The center TA platoon assaulted and captured the T64 left behind. The Gurkhas set out in pursuit after the MRC. Mortars laid a smoke screen in front of the threatened objective.

T64 change axis of attack

Turn 4 T64s assault the Brit inf. They lost one T64 to defensive fire but go in and kill two stands. The TA fail their counterattack and withdraw into the woods.
Chieftains advance and kill another T64 and the TA platoon assaults the T64 on the objective. They lose two stands to Def fire and fail to score a hit. T64 stand in there and the TA fail to counterattack and withdraw leaving the objective uncontested.

TA assaults 2nd T64

Turn 5 At turn start Pact had a T64 platoon uncontested on the objective and ‘Bypassed’ it. As all that was left after that event were the 2 BMP1 and 5 stands of the MRC. It was clear that none of those units would survive the next turn and the PACT withdrew.
Losses: Scorpion Platoon, 1 Scimitar, the Milan Platoon and 4 inf stands.
5-2 British victory

Nice report! I like the way the T have worked so far

  • kayjay says:

@ M. Nisbet They (TA) were tactically in about as good a spot as they could be. Dug in on defense. Deep in the woods lack of Milans was not a big issue. Also included the Ghurkas as a stiffener/counterattack platoon. #1 platoon actually succeeded in capturing a T64 on turn 3 but then #2 platoon had two tries at the other T64 and just could not stand in there. In more open terrain and on the attack it may not have ended well.

Great report. Digging Brit infantry out is no fun. Thanks for posting.

  • Davehodo says:

nice dug in -British Infantry are like ticks on a hound-impossible to get out and very annoying. Congrats on the win-recommended

  • M. Nisbet says:

Heh, don’t worry about it. There’s 5 different ways to spell my surname, and even my place of work spells it wrong constantly.
How did you find using the Territorials, kayjay? The reduced skill and morale on them is a bit of a difficult thing to control.

  • Tovarishch Vilgelm says:

    Oops Nisbet, NOT Nisbit.

  • Tovarishch Vilgelm says:

Nisbit said dug-in British infantry are a hard nut to crack – and you provided it. Good fight!
