It was the second battle at this satureday. After the defeat against Nicos Soviets I had to fight against his East germans.
That meant I would have to fight a horde. Nico decided to play a T-72 battalion and I decided to use the same force as in the game before.
We rolled for the mission and it was Counterattack with the NVA as attacker.
I decided to place my troops in the quarter right of the homestead. I wanted to use the homestead as defense position for my infantry with the VADS behind the house. Right of them I placed my ITV and Cobra platoon at the small forrest.
The NVA was placed nearly complete on the fields on the opposite side.
The NVA started with the BMPs rushing towards the objective on the left. The T-72's moved forward towards the field opening fire on the ITVs but missed. But two of my VADS were destroyed by them.
Behind the East german Tanks the Shilkas fired at the Cobras killing one and another was destroyed by a unbelievable lucky hit of the Spandrals.
I revealed my ambush behind the Homestead. They directly shot at the the T-72 next to them blowing three up and bailing one. The ITV tried to join in but missed the NVA tanks. Behind them the Cobras fired on the Shilkas and killed one.
The Mot. Schützen left their transports taking the left objective then the BMPs swung around and moved towards the homestead. On the right the Shilkas and the Spandrals missed the Cobras. But the HINDs destroyed both ITVs. One of the T-72 Company moved left using the homestead as cover.
The NVA was unable to destroy to M1's
The M113's moved forward behind the treeline to counter the BMPs but couldn't penetrate the armor.
Three more T-72 went up in flames as the M1's shot at the Tanks in the middle. The Cobras bailed one of the Shilkas two more were destroyed by the combined fire of the Infantry and one of M1's
Now the NVA raised the pressure. On the right the T-72's rushed forward. The last Shilka and four of the Tanks engaged the Cobras but without any effect. The BMPs moved forward and killed the last two VADS and one of the M113's. All remaining T-72's opened fire on the Abrams but only bailing one. Then the HINDs came...
...and were shot down by the .50cals of the US tanks.
The first two US reserves arrived, a platoon of M106 and three more M1's which immediately destroyed three BMPs. Two more exploded under the impacts of Dragon missiles. This time the M1's in the middle only destroyed one T-72 but bailed another two.
The Crew of one T-72 crawled back in their Tank but their fire against their US counterparts were without any effect. On the right flank the other T-72 company moved forward again and blew up two M1's with sideshots. The last Shilka managed to shot down one of the Cobras but the last stayed on the field. In the far distance the 2S1's saw the M106 platoon and decided that it could be a easy target. With a massive blast two of the Mortar carriers were ripped into pieces.
The M1 platoon on the left rushed towards the objective hold by the Mot. Schützen. Behind them the Scout platoon entered the battlefield. The whole left US flank opened fire at the NVA soldiers but were unable to harm them. In the middle the Abrams took revenge and killed two enemy tanks of the right T-72 company, another remained bailed.
The Cobra blew up one of the tanks in the middle which still won't flee.
Then the small M1 platoon charged the comma infantry. After the lose of six teams the poor infantry men decided to fall back.
The Cobra was lucky as the Shilka missed it, on the left the Mot. Schützen regained their courage and stood up to recapture the objective.
Under the combined fire of all T-72's the remaining three M1's in the middle were killed. Now only the infantry in the building was left to hold back the NVA on the right flank.
The Spandrals in the field showed that they were still on the field with an ineffective attack on the M1's.
With the losing of my tanks in the middle the situation was critical. The M1's left rushed forward but missed the T-72's. Only the Cobra killed another Tank of the heavily damaged company in the center tof the homestead. That was enough to break them. Good.
The Infantry killed another BMP and bailed one more.
This turn would bring the decision. We both now that.
Nico started with the BMPs which destroyed another M113 and forced the last to left the battlefield.
The Infantry blew up the M113 of the Scout platoon. In the middle the Spandrals missed the M1's, again.
Then the T-72 blew up two infantry teams inside the building. He had to charge them.
What happened then is for history books!
The T-72's charged the infantry, one booked down. In the first round the US boys suffered two casualties but stayed and could bail out one of the tanks. As the Tanks tried to bring more of them into contact two more bogged down. But thats not enough the infantry forced one more crew out of their tank. At the the end another T-72 was bogged down and the NVA lost two tanks by the LAWs of the GIs.
That was to much and the remaining tank left the battle as fast as he could.
At that moment the East Germans decided that they should better continues the fight on another day.
The game was over and my US boys won for the first time in this campaign.
Hopefully this victory will end my losing streak.
Interesting report. Congrats on the win.
fine report, nice looking terrain. congratulations on your victory.
Keep at it! Even if the enemy army looks like Space Invaders, if you shoot enough they will finish at some point. Well done.
Tough battle and nice report.
