The East Germans supported by Russian tanks advanced against Hildesheim in an attempt to encircle the NATO forces. The West Germans realising their dire circumstances dig in to try and stop from being surrounded.

@ Victor yes they are Litko casualty markers. I find they do a great job of showing where the fighting was the heaviest.
@ Storm Caller, because I work in blogger and this site doesn’t give me the option of cutting and pasting the html code. I’ve been doing Battle Reports on the blog for years and have over a 100 of them.
